Advanced Radiology is closely monitoring and quickly responding to developments of the COVID-19 virus outbreak. Our first priority, as always, is protecting the safety and health of our patients, our staff, and our community. We continue to follow recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Our clinical sites maintain strict infection control procedures, and our staff is following the most up-to-date CDC protocol in gathering individual patient history regarding possible exposure to the virus, and preventing its spread. We are confident that we are prepared to help limit the spread of the virus in every aspect of our operation, from telephone scheduling to clinical sites. Mary MacDonald, Chief Mammography Technologist for Advanced Radiology Consultants, has been named the 2019 Fairfield County Doctors of Distinction Award recipient for Support Staff. The awards are presented by Westfair Communications Inc., publisher of the Fairfield County Business Journal, Westchester County Business Journal, and WAG magazine. This year’s recipients, chosen by a panel of expert judges, are comprised of medical professionals across eleven categories of judging. “This award recognizes the efforts of our entire team to bring the highest-quality care to Fairfield County. Beginning January 1, 2017, legislation took effect in Connecticut that requires insurance companies to cover a more advanced form of mammography – 3D breast tomosynthesis. The state now requires insurers to cover the 3D exam upon the patient’s request. Under existing law, policies must cover baseline mammograms for women ages 35 to 39, and annual mammograms for women 40 and older. You should contact your insurance provider for specific information about coverage through your plan. Improved Image Quality The 3D systems in our offices were developed by Hologic (a company with offices in nearby Danbury) With a 3D mammogram the digital camera moves in an arc over the breast to acquire images at multiple angles. The individual images are then reconstructed into a series of thin, high-resolution slices, typically 1mm thick. The set of tomosynthesis images provides a means of viewing the breast tissue in addition to conventional 2D mammography. 3D tomosynthesis allows the separation of overlapping breast tissue structures in the breast, which leads to better visualization through normal breast tissue and the potential for improved detection of abnormalities.
